Subject: Class Session with James Barrat

Good day, all. Recall that KIE's fall speaker is James Barrat, discussing the joys and perils of
advanced artificial intelligence.

The main talk is Thursday, Oct. 8, 7:00 in the Dore (see www.csub.edu for details).

He is also doing an informal session with students that afternoon: 12:45 -2:00ish, in the Residence
Hall's large lecture room. Please encourage your students to attend one or both events. The evening
session is obviously more formal, with a structured argument about why we should be worried about AAI;
the afternoon is more free-flowing, giving students (and faculty) the chance to chat with him about any
aspect of this.

I would think it would be of particular value to the CS/CE/EE students, but any of our students would
be, no doubt, fascinated by the conversation.
