Dave, Ishmael and Evelyn,

Here are some energy-related challenges for college and university students.  Please feel
free to pass them along to the appropriate colleagues.

Don?t let the Hydrogen Student Design Contest title fool you ? it is really a challenge to
develop business and financing models for Hydrogen Fueling Stations.

Best wishes,

Apply now for EPA or Department of Energy funding.

Child pointing at globe in classroom EPA's 2014-2015 EE Grants Program:

Proposals for the initial stage of the 2014-2015 Environmental Education (EE) Grants
Program are now being accepted.  EPA is seeking grant proposals to support EE projects that
promote environmental awareness and stewardship. Projects will help provide people with the
skills to take responsible actions to protect the environment. Proposals under the first
solicitation notice- the EE Model Grants Request for Proposals (RFP)- must include projects
that design, demonstrate, and/or disseminate model EE practices, methods, or techniques.
Each funded proposal must demonstrate replicability by locating and conducting the project
in more than one state or U.S. territory during the project period. Deadline for
applications from the first RFP: February 2, 2015 11:59 PM ET.

Annual Buildings University Innovators and Leaders Development (BUILD) funding opportunity:

The U.S. Department of Energy will make $1 million available to fund efforts by U.S. based
institutions of higher education, to develop and commercialize energy efficiency
technologies. The Department will support student teams that will, in partnership with
industry, develop technologies, software, or manufacturing processes with direct
applications to residential, multi-family and commercial buildings in the United States.
Awardees will enter into two-year cooperative agreements and must be led by faculty with
expertise in energy efficient technologies, manufacturing and commercialization. Concept
paper submission deadline: December 19, 2014 5:00 PM ET.

Applications for the President's Environmental Youth Award are due soon.

Don't forget: applications for the  President's Environmental Youth Award are due by
December 31, 2014. Your project - or one you are sponsoring - could be an award winner.
Encourage one or more K-12 students you know to apply for PEYA and see what a difference
they can make for the environment with an award-winning project. Applicants from all 50
states and U.S. territories are eligible to compete for a regional certificate of special
recognition and a national presidential award.

Read the  new EPA blog from 2013 PEYA winner Gabrielle Posard, about the inspiration for
                                        her project.
